Non-weight based training

by | Sep 28, 2022

There’s a pre-conception that people only use a personal trainer for weight based goals but this isn’t always the case.

Every intervention has a cost, dieting included. Sometimes it’s physical and sometimes it’s psychological. I’ve had plenty of clients through the years that have jumped from one diet to the next and are simply beaten down with either the lack of results or the sheer effort the pattern of cyclical dieting takes.

Health is not solely based on your weight and in my first session I make it very clear that I draw a line between exercise/movement and nutrition. Exercise alone is a powerful tool and there are plenty of non-weight focused benefits to exercise and training…

Improved Strength
Improved heart health
Better sleep
Stress relief
Improved stamina
Better focus and concentration
Less joint and back pain
Better mobility and flexibility
Improved mental health
Improved bone health
Better blood glucose regulation
Better body image
Reduced risk of chronic diseases
Reduced risk of certain cancers
Stress relief
Increased sex drive

To name just a few of the common ones.

It’s not uncommon to have a client start with a weight-based goal, but once they get a taste for the other benefits of exercise oftentimes weight loss drops down the list of goals.
